When we hear “cookie” we think warm, gooey and chocolate-chipped. Sadly these ones are just tiny text files your browser stores so the website works. You can’t dunk them in tea.

Here is the honest bit: Smell.Fit is a small in-house operation. We do not use analytics platforms, advertising pixels, social-media trackers or any third-party marketing cookies. We are not tracking you around the internet, because we have neither the tools nor the interest. The only cookies we set are the ones needed to run the shop and to remember your cookie choice.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file saved by your browser when you visit a website. It lets the site remember things between pages and visits, such as what is in your basket. Some sites also use similar technologies like local storage (data kept in your browser) and pixels (tiny tracking images). We use a little local storage for site preferences; we do not use pixels or web beacons.

2. Our approach in plain English

• Essential cookies only. Everything we set is needed to run the shop, keep you logged in, process payment securely, or remember your cookie choice.
• No analytics. We do not currently use Google Analytics or any other statistics tool.
• No advertising or third-party tracking. No Google/Meta/TikTok pixels, no retargeting, no social-media trackers, no data sold or shared with advertisers.
• Fonts are self-hosted. Our fonts load from our own server, so no third-party font service sees your visit.
• Future-proofed. If we ever add an optional analytics tool, it will stay switched off until you press “Accept” on the banner. Reject it, or ignore the banner, and it stays off.

3. The cookies we actually use

Strictly necessary (always on, no consent needed)

These make the website and your order work. Under UK law they do not require consent.

• woocommerce_cart_hash / woocommerce_items_in_cart / wc_cart_hash_*: remember what is in your basket. Session / up to 1 day.
• wp_woocommerce_session_*: links your basket and checkout to you during your visit. Session (about 2 days).
• wordpress_logged_in_* / wp-settings-*: keep you logged in and remember account-screen preferences (only if you have an account). Session to persistent.
• wordpress_test_cookie: checks your browser can accept cookies. Session.
• sf_cookie_consent: remembers your choice on the cookie banner so we do not keep asking. About 6 months. First-party, set by us.
• __stripe_mid / __stripe_sid: set by our payment provider (WooPayments, powered by Stripe) when you reach the card payment step, to help prevent payment fraud. Up to 1 year / 30 minutes. Only set if you pay by card.

Functional preferences (first-party, no tracking)

We use a small amount of browser local storage to remember minor preferences, for example that you have dismissed a notice so we do not show it again. This stays in your browser, is never sent to us or anyone else, and is not used to identify or track you.

Statistics / analytics

None. We do not currently place any analytics cookies.

Marketing / advertising

None. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting, or third-party social or tracking cookies of any kind.

4. The cookie banner and your consent

Because we only use strictly necessary cookies, there is currently nothing that needs your consent. We still show a banner so you are informed and in control:

• Accept all allows any optional cookies (currently none). If we add optional analytics in future, this is what turns them on.
• Reject non-essential keeps every optional cookie switched off. Essential cookies stay on because the shop cannot run without them.
• Ignoring the banner has the same effect as rejecting: optional cookies stay off.

You can change your mind at any time. Use the button below to reopen the banner and update your choice (on desktop there is also a “Manage cookies” button in the bottom-left corner).

5. Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and set it to warn you before a cookie is placed. Please note the shop may not work properly (for example your basket may empty) if you block essential cookies. Browser Help sections explain how to do this for your specific browser.

6. Your data rights

Cookies that identify you count as personal data. Your full rights, and how we handle your information, are set out in our Privacy Statement. You can access, correct or erase your data, object to or restrict processing, and complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We would rather you came to us first so we can put things right.
